QuickAlarm version .4
=====================

Yet another Another Newton application from Bill Kearney.

1994 William Kearney & The Novanto Group

QuickAlarm installs an Intelligent Assistance verb into your Newton. With this
verb, you can quickly and easily add new alarms to your Newton Dates application.

To use QuickAlarm, simply write alarm on your NotePad and tap Assist. QuickAlarm
will open. The QuickAlarm screen has two fields for you to select and enter
delay and reminder text. The delay field is in minutes and will trigger the
alarm in minutes from the current time. If you select 2 minutes, your alarm will
sound in 2 minutes from the time your tap Set Alarm. You can write any number
of minutes in this field, even several days or weeks in the future.

The Alarm text field allows you to enter the text to be displayed when the alarm
is triggered. There is a pop-up of common choices for you to select from. You
can also write in your own text. Don't try to write a lot of text, it won't fit
on the actual alarm notification.

QuickAlarm can place it's alarms in one of two places. Either in the Schedule or
the Day Note view of the Dates application. For quick notes like the parking
meter, I prefer to place them in the Day Note view. This is that area at the top
left of the Dates application. The schedule view is the actual full-screen area
of the Dates application. It's up to you where you'd like to place them.
QuickAlarm has a toggling button labeled "Sched" or "Notes". Each time you tap
this button, you toggle between these two location. QuickAlarm will remember
where you last set and alarm for you.

There is one caveat. Alarms placed in the Day Note area are not editable. These
notes are not really intended for this purpose and the Newton Dates application
strips the start/end times from them. You can create them, but you can't edit
them after the fact. Since these are just simple reminders, this should not be a
great liability.

QuickAlarm is a good way to create alarms and Dates application entries, but it's
not the end-all-beat-all alarm and notification application. It does one job
quickly, easily and uses very little memory. If you want to edit the alarms to
make them repeatable, you can edit them once they appear in the Dates
application. I very much wanted to dig in and use the Dates application editor,
but it doesn't lend itelf to outside hacking. Sorry, but I wanted it too!

I also encourage you to obtain and purchase my Assistance! application for the
Newton. Assistance! provides a pop-up menu from the Assist button. It's MUCH
easier to use QuickAlarm with Assistance! installed.

This application is also Install/Remove polite and will not leave anything behind
in your Newton. It does not create any soups. You can put it on your card,
eject and reinsert the into a friend's Newton and it will work automatically! It
won't alter the Newton since the app follows the card.

Just say to No to bloated apps that try to do everything, yet none of it well!
